Join our team as a Senior Software Developer and help us understand and tackle cancer!
Turbine is building a computational model of human cellular biology, transforming the understanding of deadly diseases and designing life-saving treatments for patients with cancer. Combining molecular biology with data science, artificial intelligence and massive scale in the cloud, our interdisciplinary team works with leading biopharmaceutical companies across the globe.
Who we are?
Turbine was founded on the premise that a predictive, computational model of biology would revolutionize drug discovery much like computer aided design software transformed engineering.
Our growing team of biologists, data scientists and software developers has spent the several years building this model, allowing researchers to design and refine therapies before running years of biological experiments. Through millions of simulated experiments, Turbine finds the shortest, safest route for new therapies to reach patients, enabling researchers to focus their resources on fighting disease in the most efficient way possible.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll join Turbine’s Digital Lab team — the builders of the interface around our simulation core. Our mission is to empower researchers with intuitive, robust tools to interact with and extract insights from simulations that model biological processes.
Here’s a look at what we work on:
- A React-based web application used by researchers and customers to run and interpret simulations.
- SQL and Data Lake databases that capture simulation outputs.
- Databricks (Spark) pipelines that process and transform results for further analysis.
- A visualization platform that helps make complex biological data accessible and actionable.
Your primary focus will be contributing to the development of our brand-new SaaS platform, built to allow customers to interact directly with our simulation environment. Expect to spend most of your time building new features — our codebase is mature, well-structured, and maintained with quality in mind.
How We Work
- Agile sprints every two weeks, tracked on Scrum boards — without rigid ceremony.
- A cross-functional team of front-end, back-end, and DevOps engineers, as well as data scientists and biologists — all collaborating to deliver end-to-end features.
- A culture that favors autonomy, ownership, and purpose over micromanagement.
What do we offer?
-
Make a real impact: Your engineering work directly accelerates the development of life-saving therapies. - Enter biotech through engineering: Learn about drug development, cellular biology, and AI-driven bioinformatics as part of your day-to-day work — no prior life sciences experience required.
- Modern tech stack: Kubernetes, Databricks, Azure, GitHub Actions, scientific Python, TypeScript, and more.
- Supportive, mid-sized engineering org: We offer scale without bureaucracy — think democratic decision-making and low-ego collaboration.
- Flexible workstyle: Work from anywhere or join us in the office — it’s your choice.
- Competitive compensation and benefits tailored to support your growth and wellbeing.
What do we expect?
-
5+ years of experience in software engineering — regardless of your credentials or degree. - A track record of shipping production-ready code and solving real-world problems.
- A passion for software and the ability to work independently and proactively.
- Exposure to Python, TypeScript, or Azure is helpful, but not required — we value strong fundamentals and can onboard you to our stack.
