Join our team as a Senior Bioinformatician and help us understand and tackle cancer!
As a Senior Bioinformatician, you'll join a team modeling the behavior of cancer cells. Our teams develop and train novel cancer cell models that are used to simulate 100s of millions of experiments in our production environment.
Your main task will be to develop and adopt bioinformatic pipelines to process raw data to the different formats needed for our ML models. Also, in a team of a mixture of bioinformaticians, computational biologists and ML engineers, you'll also have the opportunity to work closely with ML experts, learn ML concepts and tackle hard, unsolved machine learning problems heavily infused with biology.
As a Senior Bioinformatician, you can be a driving force together with Computational Biologists and ML engineers to break up the black box of modern ML methods and design explainable models.
Essential skills:
- Process data sources of lab experiments with various readouts - explore, clean and featurize datasets generated with RNASeq, in CRISPR screens, or with single cell techniques
- Strong familiarity with next Generation Sequencing analysis (RNA-seq, WGS, WES, DRUG-seq etc.) - gene expression profiling, variant calling, copy number analysis
- Familiarity with statistics (distributions, population statistics, correlations, multiple testing) and plotting (histograms, scatterplots, identifying trends etc.) for analyzing and comparing large biological datasets
- Hands-on experience with dataset processing for analysis and ingress of data sources from various biological contexts (in vitro,PDX, patient)
- Hands-on experience with the most common public data sources and their structure (Ensembl, UniProt, etc.)
- Internal codes are mostly Python based, with occasionally other languages (R, spark, SQL, bash); solid coding skills for processing datasets is a must-have, with proficiency in at least Python or R (Python is preferred)
- Process research papers and pick up new techniques and concepts to be applied in the team's daily work
- Openness to learn ML
- Eager to proactively contribute to the planning of our roadmap. You'll have an impact on defining our next steps.
Nice to have:
- Python experience with data processing libraries (Pandas, SciPy, NumPy, etc.) and plotting lib (Matplotlib)
- SQL experience
- Apache Spark / Databricks knowledge to work with Terabytes of data efficiently
- Fundamental ML knowledge - statistical modeling basics, train/test split, bias/variance tradeoff, model evaluation metrics
- Train basic black box ML models as part of benchmarking
