We are seeking a Controller to lead our accounting team. This role will manage our current Accounting Manager, who is experienced and high performing. We want to bring in someone now to learn about our business and processes and be able to perform all the accounting functions during an upcoming, planned three month medical leave. As our business grows, we expect to grow the team and see a clear path to promoting this role to a Controller position. This role will report to the CFO and will assist the CFO in some financial planning and analysis tasks until an FP&A team is formed.
Responsibilities
Provide thought leadership for the Accounting function
Manage the team to complete traditional accounting functions (closing the books, reconciliations, A/R, A/P, payroll prep, etc.) on-time with a high degree of accuracy
Provide professional growth for accounting team members
Communicate with state agencies when needed including registering the company in new states.
Complete monthly/quarterly sales tax returns.
Assist CFO with month-end budget to actual variance analysis and updating the rest of year forecast.
Coordinate with external accountants for income tax preparation, research and development activities, and assist with financial statement audit.
Prepare monthly financials required by the lender.
Support reporting needs of investors.
Provide accurate and comprehensive financial information to the Chief Financial Officer.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required; CPA preferred.
Thorough knowledge of accounting and finance
At least 6 years of accounting experience is required, preferably in a high growth, early stage company.
Prior experience in the oversight and management of an accounting office
Ability to acquire understanding and absorb new information rapidly
Analytical, organized, and enthusiastic leader
Personable, action-oriented, and professional
Expertise working in Quickbooks is required
Experience with conversion from Quickbooks to another system such as NetSuite highly preferred
